How racist is Sicily towards blacks?

I am an African-American man and I've been to northern and central Italy and encountered no racism from Italians whatsoever. However, I've heard that the southern part of Italy is very racist. I've seen pictures of Palermo and the mountains of Sicily and it looks so beautiful. I'd love to visit, but I'm wary of going someplace where I might be treated with hostility because of my skin color. If you're black and spent time in Sicily, I'd like to hear your experience especially.
